ICANN & Human Rights
Client: Article 19
The Internet significantly facilitates the exercise of human rights today. Since the Domain Name System is integral to the way in which we use and navigate the internet, the human rights aspect of the DNS is an important area of study. ICANN, a multi-stakeholder, non profit corporation that secures the operation of the DNS, has adopted internationally accepted human rights as part of its core values.
The Cross Community Working Party on ICANN’s Corporate and Social Responsibility to Respect Human Rights (CCWP-HR) seeks to map the human rights implications of ICANN’s policies, procedures and operations and facilitate a better understanding of its responsibility towards human rights.
